Anticipating Minds, Inc. Announces devAdvantage 2.0 Beta Program Available

June 29th, 2004

Anticipating Minds, Inc. announces a public beta program for its 2.0 version of devAdvantage has now begun. The latest version has new productivity features as well as a large set of naming convention rules. Participants will receive a 45% discount on the 2.0 product when it releases.

Broadening the Market
devAdvantage 1.0, a tool that automates C# code reviews and fixes problems the problems found, was released in October of 2003. The 1.0 release provides rules targeted at programmers that develop multi-threaded .NET applications. The devAdvantage 2.0 release is the first of many rapid releases to broaden the functionality for every day tasks that all C# developers perform. Version 2.0 will deliver a collection of rules, called a knowledge pack, for naming conventions .

Making it Cost Effective to Enforce Standards
Conforming and enforcing naming conventions across a team of developers can be challenging, if not impossible. What is more frustrating is that even when issues are found in code reviews developers don’t always take the time to correct the issues. Yet, when these types of guidelines are ignored, companies pay the cost of increased software maintenance.

devAdvantage 2.0, along with the Naming Conventions Knowledge Pack allows you to quickly detect any naming violations in your C# code. Taking static code analysis beyond what other automated code review tools offer, devAdvantage allows you to correct all these C# naming convention violations in either a single click or by interacting with the product to collaboratively make fixes. This now makes it feasible and cost effective for organizations to realistically enforce programming standards making their products easier to maintain.

What is Next
Anticipating Minds is very close to releasing its next set of rules in an Error Handling Knowledge Pack.  This knowledge pack will have a collection of configurable rules targeted error handling, exception management and error logging – making it easy for developers to ensure their code is robust a supportable.  Like all the rules for devAdvantage, these will be capable of both detecting and correcting issues.  Anticipating Minds is working to introduce this set of rules into the 2.0 beta program before it concludes.
